Someone is home from the vet seems to be feeling much better! Jersey spend the last 30 hours at the vet getting Xray’d and IV’d… and I spent the last 30 hours sitting at home on the edge of my seat, biting my finger nails! It was a worrisome day, but I am happy to report that he seems no worse for wear.
The good news is that his Xray results were clear– no stones or other obstructions. His prostate did appear enlarged (considered a moderate case of prostatitis), but that wasn’t a total surprise considering the severity of his bladder infection. He was kept on an injectable antibiotic while at the vet and will start a new round of oral meds here at home. He’ll need to be on them for A MONTH… however, he will be examined mid-way to see if he’s made any progress.
The bad news is that, as I was dreading, the Vet suspects that Jersey will continue to have issues with this sort of thing until he is neutered. Obviously, our #1 focus right now is to get THIS initial infection under control and deal with the rest later.. But if this is a reoccurring thing, and if he continues to battle Prostatitis &/or UTIs, I’ll be forced to seriously consider having Jersey neutered.
It’s crazy that “just” a bladder infection/UTI can have been so brutal. This thing has really knocked us on our asses. I’m just glad that we have a pretty clear diagnosis and a plan of action to tackle it. The rest we’ll take one day at a time.
