I am a member of a French Bulldog Community on Facebook. We’re just a bunch of Crazy Frenchie Enthusiasts who like to share photos, videos & advice with each other. Today one of the group members posted a question about his (almost) 3 year old boy…
“My boy Brody has been hobbling around all day and I think something is wrong with his back. He won’t sit or lay and his back legs are shaky and uncoordinated. Any advice?”
His query was met with a lot of advice… however, many of us were VERY quick to raise IVDD alarm bells. We urged Brody’s owner to get him into the nearest Neuro-Specialist for an MRI. Thankfully Brody’s Dad did just that… and several hours later, Brody was diagnosed with 2 ruptured discs, requiring emergency spinal surgery. This poor boy went from ‘hobbling’ in the morning, to almost paralyzed by that same afternoon.
The good news is that Brody was able to make it into Emergency Surgery today… The bad news is that the quote is $6,500-$8,500… and like many of you reading this, Brody’s owner does not have Health Insurance for his dog.
So tonight, folks… I am asking you for 2 favours…
#1…. HELP BRODY. Even if you can just donate $1. Any little bit helps. When Oslo went through this, I also relied on the generosity of strangers to pay his vet bills… and I am telling you that TO THIS DAY I feel an incredible amount of gratitude for every penny that we received.
#2…. GET YOUR DOG INSURED. Or! Start a savings account and keep $10,000 in there at all times. I could not be more serious. IVDD happens. Often (TOO OFTEN). Make sure that you have a safety net in place so that if something like this happens to you & your loved one, you will have the means to get the help you need.
To Brody & his human, Andy… We are keeping you in our thoughts! All of us in the French Bulldog Community who have experienced IVDD know all too well what you are going through. We are here for you, and sending you every ‘Get Better Soon’ wish imaginable!
